We have mountain biking events lined up all year round in New Zealand. They are also spread across the country in different regions spanning from Taupa, Hamilton, Wanaka, Rotorua, Hurunui, Nelson and Tasman. Choosing an event that best suits you can be nerve-racking, however with a good guide, you can select an event that helps you enjoy it fully. Let’s look at four events lined up in 2020.
Kaiteriteri Big Bike Weekender
This event is planned for the weekend of April 18/19 2020 in the Kaiteriteri Mountain Park. This event will have a 6-hour relay on Saturday around Port Nelson having different categories for either women, men, mixed-gender teams, students with organisers giving away prizes for those with the most creative dress. After the event, there will be an after-party making it an excellent plan for the weekend. Then on Sunday, there will other activities lined up as well, like jaws endure and rip dawn jaws.
Craters Classic Mountain Bike Event
This event is planned for Sunday, 14th June 2020 at the Wairakei Resort. Here you get a chance to sample the 80km single-track network and also prepare for the Huka challenge that takes place in November. Being a Bike Taupa event, proceeds from this event help maintain and improve the track making it even more welcoming in the future.
Emersons Whaka 100
This event is lined up on the weekend of 24/25 in October 2020 at the Waipa Mountain Bike Park. This event pride itself as one of the toughest there is to offer. Here you get the opportunity to sample either 100, 50, 25, 10 or 5KM for kids. For those who love a challenge, a vertical climb 3045 meters throughout the course gives you more than that.
Crank it at Craters
This event will be held on 28th March 2020 around Lake Taupo, 415 Huka Falls Road and has no age restrictions. This event offers either 100,50,25Km or 12.5KM for kids.
